Santorum victorious in La Plata County
Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum prevailed in La Plata County Republican caucuses Tuesday night.Participants favored him by 36 percent, with a total of 315 votes. Mitt Romney came in second with 28 percent, or 245 votes.Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich both tied with 18 percent each, 159 votes to Paul and 162 votes to Gingrich.

City fixes pot-law error
Minor pot possession will become illegal again in Durango on Feb. 16.The Durango City Council on Tuesday corrected a typographical error from 2009 when ordinances were amended to allow for medical marijuana.The error was prohibiting possession of an ounce or more of marijuana instead of an ounce or less.

Public works director to retire
After supervising countless public improvement projects, Otha Jack Rogers, director of public works for the city of Durango, will retire March 1.Rogers has been employed with the city for the last 29 years, overseeing the modernization of the city from the slide ruler to GPS, said City Manager Ron LeBlanc.

Body IDd as friend of missing person
Authorities on Tuesday positively identified the body of a man who was found dead last weekend near another mans abandoned vehicle.Michael DeCoteau, 29, of Wenatchee, Wash., was found stuffed into a culvert with multiple gunshot wounds, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the San Juan County N.M. Sheriffs Office.
